One of the major issues I have with block schedule is the difficulty students have assimulating the material in the short time frame. Maintaining the pace necessary to complete the curriculum does not allow for as many problem solving activities as I would like. Students need to apply their mathematics to develop their own understanding.
Educational Organization recently sat down to discuss organizational change with Steve Scroggs. Scroggs is currently the interim principal at a large high school in central North Carolina. He has been a teacher and a principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and was the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services and Facilities in his district for 10 years. Also, he comes from a family of educators and has a history of dealing with organizational issues in the public schools. Finally, we invite you to use this blog to view and participate in the discussion we have begun here.
